Ontario has exciting activities that will accommodate the needs of all of our locals and visitors. Often, tourists take a few days of intense sight-seeing and need a day or two to just relax. Visit one of Ontario’s science centres or planetariums where you can leisurely stroll through the centre and keep learning. Check out Ontario’s science attractions below.
Open 7 days a week, The Ontario Science Centre is known for its plethora of interactive exhibits. The Ontario Science Centre is jam-packed with exhibits for visitors of any age. Priced to accommodate any family, adults are $20, children are $13 and youth and seniors have a discounted rate of $16. Infants enter for free. Twenty people or more are offered further discounted rates.
Located in Toronto, Ontario, the OSC features everything science and nature; exhibits include geology, astronomy, music and technology, human anatomy, communication and display a number of artifacts from space. In fact, the OSC includes Toronto’s only planetarium and is one of the few to display Mars and Moon rocks in Canada.
The William J. McCallion Planetarium is the first in Ontario to offer shows to the public. The shows are live projections of current space, which allows for up-to-date analysis and genuine interaction with the audience by the presenter.
This Planetarium is better suited to children over the age of 6, and the presenters try to tailor their presentations to the audience at hand. Admission is $5 per person, which you pay at the door. The seating is first-come-first-serve with a capacity of 35 people per show (plus 1 wheelchair access spot).
Science North Planetarium is located in Sudbury, Ontario and is open daily from 9am to 6pm. The SNP is currently closed until March 5, 2011. Admission prices range depending on what attractions you wish to see, but an all-day inclusive passport for science centre, and IMAX movie and the planetarium goes for $32.
SNP contains a science centre, and IMAX theatre, butterfly gallery, a dynamic earth attraction, the planetarium, a 4D (3D plus special effects seating) bush plane adventure, plus a Cortina cruise boat.
Doran Planetarium is located in Sudbury, Ontario in association with Laurentian university. DP is the largest planetarium in North America. Admission is a mere $3 and the planetarium is open mostly every day.
Groups are given a presentation of the current night sky, different mythologies associated with the constellations and an observation of the sky as Earth spins on its axis. Truly for the space junkies, the Doran Planetarium is available with a lecture, school and specialty series that includes the search for extraterrestrial life.
